Gear/EDC (Every-day carry)

I’ve always been a gear-junkie and can’t even remember when I started carrying a knife every day. Key chains, flashlights, knives, multi-tools, wallets, pens, gadgets, widgets and the like; I enjoy it all. It started with knives and then continued on to adding pens. I almost surprised myself at how often just those two items proved themselves essential items in my life. Next on the must-have list was a flashlight, then a SOG PowerAssist multi-tool. If you’ve ever taken a look at the prices for some of the EDC items people have shown you, or possibly seen on the interwebz somewhere you’ll know these gadgets can be heavy on the wallet. For example, I can’t afford some of the Foursevens products, but they’re awesome!

How can I get started with a decent EDC system/rig without selling my car to pay for it all?

KA-BAR makes an excellent knife for a very decent price. If you’ve never heard of KA-BAR, they’re pretty much the official knife of the Marine Corps. Their knives are kind of a big deal. This flashlight by Streamlight is a bright, and cheap LED flashlight. Also, 900+ users on Amazon say it’s pretty sweet. Lastly, if you’re looking to carry a pen everywhere, the Fisher Space Pen is a bit pricey, but is worth the money, and you won’t have problems writing. Ever. Unless you’re out of ink. Or you lose the pen. Okay, maybe not ever but still. You can get all three of these items at a pretty decent price (comparatively speaking) and if treated well, they should last you for years. Lastly, ladies may want to consider something like this pepper spray made by Ruger. It’s a cheap, non-lethal option for those who are conscious of self-defense. Before you ask, yes, it comes in pink.

Well, that’s my two cents for now…
